Réseaux de confraternité et histoire des bibliothèques : L'exemple de l'abbaye bénédictine de la Trinité de Fécamp

Abstract : In the Middle Ages, fraternity networks encouraged the circulation of men between the religious communities. The reconstruction of the confraternity network of the Trinity of Fecamp abbey - obtained thanks to the elaboration of an innovative method which made it possible to return to this monastery an important fragment of necrology - confirms not only the existence of a Circulation of monks, but above all allows the circulation of manuscripts and texts between the most closely associated establishments. The study of fraternity networks thus constitutes a particularly rich and promising field of research for the knowledge of the history of ancient libraries as well as for the transmission and reception of written heritage. It deserves special attention when the researcher is interested in the Benedictine libraries constituted and enriched between the tenth and the thirteenth century, that is to say at the apogee of the activity of the monastic scriptoria and at a time when the monasteries were the main cultural and spiritual centers of the West. The inquiry is also an opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the 'volpianien' spiritual network as well as the library and scriptorium of the Abbey of Trinité Fécamp under the abbots Guillaume de Volpiano (1001-1028) and Jean de Fécamp ( 1028-1078). In particular, the fund has been allocated 23 new manuscripts and rejected 9 others. About 15 monastic libraries in Burgundy, Italy, Lorraine, Ile-de-France, Angers and Normandy, closely associated with Fécamp, are also the subject of an in-depth study.
