While the digital world is often thought in spatial terms, there is still a lack of clarity for concepts (space, environment, milieu, ecosystem) that are far from being equivalent. This article deals with the issues conveyed by such a vocabulary, in particular by examining the notion of "digital milieu", a concept that invites us to rethink the way in which humans establish their relationship with the world.

Si le numérique est souvent pensé en termes spatiaux, on constate néanmoins la persistance d'un flou terminologique entre des notions (espace, environnement, milieu, écosystème) qui sont loin d'être équivalentes. Cet article s'intéresse aux enjeux véhiculés par un tel vocabulaire, en interrogeant plus particulièrement la notion de « milieu numérique », dont une rapide archéologie invite à repenser la façon dont l'homme établit son rapport au monde.
