Unità di tempo e visione tragica nella Sophonisbe di Mairet
Abstract
Mairet’s Sophonisbe marks a turning point in the French tragic tradition. His success confirms Chapelain’s theories on theatre, and shows that it is possible to create a well done tragedy respecting Aristotelian unities. On the other hand, the respect of unity of time allows the play to convey a specific tragic vision of French scenes in the 1630s.
La Sophonisbe de Mairet marque un tournant dans la production tragique française du XVIIe siècle. Si d’un côté son succès légitime les idées de Chapelain sur le théâtre, de l’autre le respect de l’unité de temps permet de véhiculer une vision tragique qui, tout en héritant des conceptions tragiques du passé, est propre aux scènes françaises des années 1630.
