"Chimere incomplete": viaggio di iconografie attraverso il Mediterraneo
Résumé
This contribution is inspired by the observation of some iconographic types engraved on the well-known Etruscan silver series, attributed to Populonia. In particular, these are monsters with a leonine and anguished body. The peculiarity of these hybrids, given the presence of two of the three components of the chimera's classic iconography, is still unexplored. The present paper therefore proposes to analyze the question of their identity through a verification of their presence in the Etruscan figurative repertoire and, more generally, of the Mediterranean basin, to highlight the problems related to origin and their transmission.
