"Les repas de confrérie à la fin du Moyen Âge : l'exemple de la confrérie parisienne Saint-Jacques-aux-Pèlerins au travers de sa comptabilité (XIVe siècle)" (2009)

Abstract : The Saint-Jacques-aux-Pèlerins brotherhood was one of the most important brotherhoods of medieval Paris. Its accounting, kept in the archives of the Public Assistance, allows to analyze all the meals that took place in the fourteenth century. We observe a ritual of most dinners that had a well-defined role. The annual banquet, which brought the confreres together to celebrate their patron saint, was the most important moment in the life of the brotherhood. A whole financial organization, material and human, was then set up for the preparation of the banquet, because its success reflected the image of the brotherhood in the Parisian society.
