Abstract : We rst focused on the problem of power-aware data collection in large-scale wireless sensor networks. We proposed various fault tolerant deployment and redeployment strategies to ensure full connectivity and optimal coverage and to ensure ecient data dissemination. Next, we investigated hierarchical methods and we assessed the interest of ecient spatial redundancy management of the sensors within the framework of a clustering mechanism. We have therefore studied and proposed energy-ecient routing strategies by combining clustering with intelligent routing methods based on meta-heuristic approaches. Afterwards, we considered the use of cognitive radio within wireless sensor networks. We rst modeled the joint time slot and frequency assignment scheduling problem of communications in cognitive radio wireless sensors networks. Next, we proposed various spatial and temporal scheduling mechanisms, which operate either in centralized or hierarchical manner, reducing the total duration of scheduling of the cognitive sensors while reducing their energy consumption. Our proposals take into account the unexpected returns of primary users and the mobility of wireless sensors. In a third part, we considered the problem of quality of service oriented routing in metropolitan Mesh wireless networks. Within the IEEE 802.11n standard, we are interested in deploying a Mesh network and proposing new routing approaches that maximize the bandwidth oered to users. We proposed new routing metrics that capture the links availability. Our major contribution in this direction was the proposition of a novel metric that takes into account the inter and intra ow interferences and the proposal of a proactive routing protocol that uses this metric to select the optimal paths in terms of available bandwidth.
