Laser-induced phase separation and self-trapping of a laser beam in water-in-oil microemulsions

Résumé

The thermodiffusive effect induced by a c.w. laser beam in a micellar phase located near a diphasic domain results in a phase séparation. The micrometric droplets of the new phase nucleated in the initial one are trapped on the beam axis by electrostrictive effect and self-focuse the laser beam. This self-focusing is characterized by an hysteresis similar to that of the ferromagnetic material magnetization.
