Three gradients emittance measurement method for CRTs
Résumé
The RMS emittance is a realistic and simple global description of the particle distribution in the phase space of a beam. The three gradients method, widely used by particle accelerators physicists, allows to measure this parameter in a given plane. We present here the general theory and formalism, as well as the validity domain, in order to apply and adapt this method to the CRTs and, as a result, make emittance meausrements on several electron guns. It only needs the RMS spot size on screen for different anode voltages.
