Objectifs, contraintes et choix méthodologiques des enquêtes ménages du programme ANR Modural sur les pratiques de mobilité durable dans les périphéries populaires de Bogotá et Lima

Abstract : Daily mobility is a central research issue in the large Latin American metropolises marked by strong socio-residential segregation and a growth model that favors sprawl on the outskirts. The populations of these cities, especially the low-income classes relegated to outlying neighborhoods, are experiencing real difficulties in their daily mobility. While the public transport provision is deficient, active modes such as cycling or walking are barely able to offer an alternative to individual motorized means. In this context, the ANR Modural project, which focuses on two large Latin American capitals with more than 9 million inhabitants: Bogotá (Colombia) and Lima (Peru), seeks to understand both the impediments that may limit the adoption of more sustainable mobility practices and, on the other hand, the levers that may promote this transition. To this end, two questionnaire surveys will be deployed among a sample of 1600 households between May and July 2022 in four areas illustrative of the peripheral urban contexts of each of these two capitals. The communication addresses the objectives, constraints and methodological issues raised during the preparatory phase of these two surveys. It also presents the choices made and the dimensions to be considered in order to guarantee the representativeness of the selected households. The approach followed for the sampling designs and the implications of these choices for the implementation of quantitative surveys are discussed.
