Emergence of a cognitive and representational level in humans
L’émergence du niveau cognitif et représentationnel chez l'Homme
Résumé
In a previous work (The origin of human cognitive and representational capacities) we put forward the idea of a specific level of organization, capable of generating the various aspects of the human intellect. There is nothing mysterious here, only the idea of a functional organization at a higher level than that of the neurobiological. We will now advance in the explanation of this hypothesis. It is difficult to deny that Man thinks and represents the world to himself. If we give up the mind-body problem to explain this anthropological characteristic, an interesting line of research consists in seeking the support of cognition in the human constitution as it appears in view of current knowledge. This seems possible with to the concept of emergence associated with a dual approach seeking to link the cognitive and representational level and the neurobiological level.
Dans un précédent travail (L’origine des capacités cognitives et représentationnelles humaines) nous avons avancé l’idée d’un niveau d’organisation spécifique, susceptible de générer les divers aspects de l’intellect humain. Il n'y a là rien de mystérieux, seulement l'idée d'une organisation fonctionnelle de niveau supérieur à celle du neurobiologique. Nous allons maintenant avancer dans l’explicitation de cette hypothèse. Il est difficile de nier que l'Homme pense et se représente le monde. Si on renonce au dualisme corps-esprit pour expliquer cette caractéristique anthropologique, une piste de recherche intéressante consiste à chercher le support de la cognition dans la constitution humaine telle qu'elle se présente au vu du savoir actuel. Cela semble possible grâce au concept d’émergence, rendu explicite par une double approche cherchant à relier le niveau cognitif et représentationnel et le niveau neurobiologique.
