Construire l’école du bien-être dans un quartier pauvre. Une expérience d’accompagnement sociologique

Abstract : The French school remains a poor indicator of child welfare, as well as the child’s feeling sense of home while in school. This article analyzes the reconstruction process of a school in a poor neighborhood within a medium-size French town. This ethnographic and sociological research is based on the constitution and the followup of a group that includes various stakeholders from the neighborhood involved in the school. This experimental approach sheds light on the potential and the obstacles of opening the education process to associations, parents, and children. To move towards a welfare school, the authors offer to consider practical issues of the educational community’s everyday life (courtyard, security, health) in order to bypass controversy around school values.
