La ville en mode « démonstrateur urbain » : learning from Nantes City Lab

Abstract : This article examines the emergence of an exploratory regime of the urban fabric in a context of increasing resort from public action to innovation. The survey is based on three case studies in Nantes: a demonstration quarter, a house printed by a robot and an autonomous shuttle, from which it seeks to identify the achievement and reception tests by institutional and private actors. The proofs of concretisation of these three cases reveal a transversal impregnance of the digital and important legal issues to facilitate achievements that tend to divert technical standards and rules of the urban fabric. However, the plan regime remains present with an objective of realization of the objects which remains sometimes a pretext to the implementation of an exploratory regime of the urban fabric. This regime consists of mobilizing land —playgrounds— for the experimentation of technical objects user-oriented implying a transformation of professional cultures from urban design to service design.
