Participe télique, participe atélique et aspect

Abstract : This paper is about participles (‘present’ participle – Ving –, such as writing, and ‘past’ participle – Ven –, such as written) and their aspectual properties. Observation shows that both participles, ‘present’ participle and ‘past’ participle, share some characteristics : their dependency in particular, as non finite forms, and the fact that both have aspectual properties – aspect and dependency being narrowly connected. There is, however, a fundamental difference between the two, and my hypothesis is that the ‘present’ participle (Ving) is atelic and that the ‘past’ participle (Ven) is telic.
