Electromagnetics of carbon: Nano versus micro
Résumé
We consider the electromagnetic response of highly porous structures made of glassy carbon and pyrolytic carbon films, which are nanometer-thin materials. We will focus on these two kinds of materials because of their high technological potential: porous foamlike structures can be easily produced from thermoset polymer foams or templates, whereas pyrocarbon in contrast to graphene can be deposited directly onto dielectric substrates of any shape and size and can serve as simple and cheap technological basis for metasurface production. The peculiarities and advantages of using each of the two objects for terahertz passive components will be discussed.
