Luc Boltanski et Jean-Claude Chamboredon, sous la direction de Pierre Bourdieu, La banque et sa clientèle. Éléments d’une sociologie du crédit (1963). Présentation d’extraits d’un document.

Abstract : In 1963, Luc Boltanski and Jean-Claude Chamboredon, under the supervision of Pierre Bourdieu, investigated the way in which a major French bank granted real estate loans. The practice is new. How are potential borrowers welcomed ? How do they understand what is happening ? How does the bank organize this credit socialization ? How does it transform the practices and morals of money ? This article presents the context of the survey and its main results. Then, we have transcribed excerpts from the report. The first one recounts the encounter between clients and receptionists. The second provides analyses by the authors on the differentiated meaning given to the credit according to the social category of the customer.
