Le temps des fessées. Microhistoire d’un fantasme mineur

The constitution of a men’s spanking club in the late 1980s in France offers an opportunity to analyse the definition of the fantasy of a minority, and to explore the logic of a process of eroticization. The club began by defining a fetishism of spanking that constituted it as an autonomous erotic practice, integrating pain and humiliation, and blurring the distinction between coercion and consent to the point of indiscernibility. Through the use of scenarios, this fantasy opens up possibilities of identification and establishes a relationship to time based on the anticipation of spanking, which is simultaneously feared and desired. The pornographic narratives published in the association’s magazine also offer details on the historical conditions around this fantasy. The association was created when problematizations of violence and childhood change, with widespread condemnation of corporal punishment as well as denunciation of disciplinary institutions and of pedophilia. The fantasy of spanking is based on a specific temporalization: it is a return to childhood as seen through the lens of adult desires, a historically situated afterwardness which replays, in a minor mode, masculine experiences that are in the process of being reclassified as illegitimate or on the way to disappearing.
La constitution d’un club de fessée entre hommes à la fin des années 1980 en France permet d’analyser la définition d’un fantasme minoritaire et les ressorts d’un processus d’érotisation. Le club définit en premier lieu un fétichisme de la fessée qui constitue celle-ci en pratique érotique autonome, qui intègre la douleur et l’humiliation à une pratique sexuelle, et qui rend indiscernable la distinction entre la contrainte et le consentement. À travers la mobilisation de scénarios, le fantasme ouvre des possibilités d’identifications et instaure un rapport au temps où la fessée est anticipée, à la fois crainte et désirée. Les récits pornographiques publiés dans le magazine de l’association permettent également de préciser les conditions historiques de ce fantasme. L’association naît au moment où se stabilisent de nouvelles problématisations des violences et de l’enfance, caractérisées par la condamnation des châtiments corporels, la dénonciation des institutions disciplinaires et de la pédophilie. Le fantasme de la fessée, qui repose sur une temporalisation spécifique, un retour à une enfance vue à travers des désirs d’adultes, est un après-coup historiquement situé qui rejoue, sur un mode mineur, des expériences masculines en cours d’illégitimation ou de disparition.
