Pour une approche relationnelle de la conditionnelle en arabe littéraire moderne
Résumé
Based on novels written in Modern Standard Arabic published between 1963 and 2005 and from the entire Arab world, this article suggests how the hypothetical systems of this variety of language no longer correspond to the established "classical" model. Specifically, it demonstrates that the so called MSA grammar books are, when facing the reality of the texts, descriptively inadequate. It then shows how the modern Arabic conditional clause, on its literary level, has created a kind of sequences of tenses, certainly influenced by European languages such as French and English. Therefore this is no longer the operator of the hypothetical system (id̠ ā, in and law) that enables us to understand the meaning of a conditional clause, but the relationship existing between the operator of the hypothetical system's protasis and the verbal form of the apodosis of that system.
À partir d'oeuvres romanesques écrites en arabe littéraire moderne, publiées entre 1963 et 2005 et issues de l'ensemble du monde arabe, cet article tend à montrer en quoi les systèmes hypo-thétiques de cette variété de la langue ne correspondent plus au modèle "classiquement" établi. Précisément, il indique que les grammaires dites de l'arabe moderne se révèlent, confrontées à la réalité des textes, descriptivement inadéquates. Il montre ensuite en quoi la conditionnelle moderne arabe, dans son registre littéraire, s'est dotée d'une sorte de concordance des temps, certainement sous l'influence des langues européennes comme le français et l'anglais. En consé-quence, ce n'est plus l'opérateur du système hypothétique (id̠ ā, in et law) qui imprime à lui seul le sens à comprendre d'un énoncé conditionnel, mais la relation qui existe entre l'opérateur de la protase du système hypothétique et la forme verbale de l'apodose dudit système.
