Prospections géophysiques sur le site néolithique du "Pontet" (Saint-Nazaire-sur-Charente, Charente-Maritime)

Abstract : The Neolithic site of Le Pontet is located near the estuary of River Charente. It was identified by E. Bouchet in 2009 on aerial photographs showing the presence of four subparallel and discoutinuous ditches. Their morphologies indicate that they correspond to the late Neolithic period. A high spatial magnetic survey was carried out to map all site using original protocol of magnetic survey. The resulting map is to high quality. It identified the tracing of the causewayed enclosures and highlights two other enclosures, a great entrance with «pinces de crabe» (Crab's pincers), pits and postholes. This map has been completed by electrical resistivity maps and tomographies. All these data provide a solid preliminary basis to archaeological excavations. Thus, geophysical surveys aim at an excavation zone corresponding to an alignment of four pits whitch interrogated the interdisciplinary team on their function.
