Genre et représentations de l’autorité chez les enseignantes débutantes exerçant en lycée professionnel

Abstract : In this study among women pre-service teachers working in French vocational high schools, we investigate the relations between the teachers’ representations of classroom authority and their perceptions of difficulties related to classroom management. Based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews, results show that the respect of teacher authority, in classes with little gender diversity, is perceived as being initially linked to gendered social relations between teacher and students, as well as to the teacher’s physical characteristics. Results also show how these representations are taken into consideration in order to ensure classroom management and teacher authority.
