Comparison of recent models for the Mullins effect: formulation and finite element implementation

Résumé

The present paper focuses on the modelling of the Mullins effect in elastomers. Different approaches respectively based on physics, damage mechanics and the two-network theory are presented. The pros and the cons to their formulation and finite element implementation are discussed. It appears that all these approaches are complementary and present different limitations due to their formulations.
