Le monnayage nivernais des comtes de Nevers (954-1355). Première partie : la période d’immobilisation (954-1160 environ). II
Résumé
The minting period for the feudal coinage of the earls of Nevers (France) spans a period of more than four centuries extending from 954 through 1355. The last synthesis for such coinage dates back to the end of the 19th century. This article follows up on a previous one by the same authors published in the Revue numismatique issue for 2017 which proposed for the immobilization period of this coinage a new catalog synthetizing the existing information, on the basis of both the numismatic data (types, metrology, hoards, written sources and elemental analysis) and the up to date historical information, aiming to a new chronological classification. The main purposes of the present article are to attempt to evaluate (i) the circulation and real importance of this coinage during such immobilization period and (ii), taking into account the information contained in the first article, the monetary policy of the earls during such period. Additional articles are under preparation in order to propose the same type of work covering the nominative period of the coinage of the earls of Nevers from 1160 approximately through 1355.
La période de frappe du monnayage féodal des comtes de Nevers s’étend sur plus de quatre siècles de 954 à 1355. La dernière synthèse portant sur ces séries date de la fin du xixe siècle. Cet article fait suite à celui des mêmes auteurs, paru dans la Revue numismatique 2017, proposant pour la période d’immobilisation de ce monnayage un nouveau catalogue synthétisant les informations anciennes, fondé sur la documentation relative à la monnaie (types, métrologie, trésors monétaires, sources écrites et composition élémentaire) et sur les connaissances historiques, dans le but de présenter un nouveau classement chronologique argumenté. Le présent article a pour objectifs principaux d’essayer d’appréhender (i) la circulation et l’importance réelle de ce monnayage au cours de cette même période d’immobilisation et (ii), en tenant compte des informations contenues dans le premier article, la politique monétaire des comtes au cours de cette période. D’autres articles sont en préparation qui proposeront le même type de travail pour la période nominative de ce monnayage qui couvre approximativement les années 1160 à 1355.
