This paper aims to analyse the singular poetic of the crowd which Éric Vuillard tries to forge in 14 Juillet as a rehabilitation of collective action. The authors first place 14 Juillet within the stylistic and political framework of the representation of the crowd; then they examine the stylistics specific to the novel on this question. The focus shifts afterwards to the debates regarding the unstable genre of a work whose main character is the crowd. Finally, the authors take apart the many layers of discourse on the revolutionary mob, from the traditional discourse (which is condemned), to the discourse the crowd holds on itself, and to the auctorial discourse, that postulates the universality of the uprising and its anachronicity.
Cet article propose d'analyser l'effort d'É.
