ADC Resolution for Simultaneous Reception of Two Signals with High Dynamic Range

Résumé

This paper discusses a new limit for the dynamic range of an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) in presence of two simultaneous signals to process. An encountered method to determine the minimum required ADC resolution is analysed and compared to the well known formula established for a single received signal. A new approach is proposed to evaluate the resolution when the ADC is fed with a weak and a strong signal. Compared to previous works, we show the required resolution is enhanced by the presence of two signals through a spectral representation and mathematical developments.
