Tamquam exul, ignotus et neglectus : deux Italiens en terres étrangères. L’exemple de Pierre Martyr d’Anghiera et de Théodore Guaineri

When in 1488 Peter Martyr d’Anghiera (1457-1526) wrote his friend Théodore Guaineri (1449-ca.1509), they both had left their country, Italy, to join foreign courts – the first as chaplain of the catholic monarchs of Spain, the second as personal physician of King Charles VIII. The correspondence between the two humanists only has been preserved in four letters from Peter Martyr d’Anghiera, which explore the representations of exile while also portraying the rulers of their adopted countries.

Quando nel 1488 Pietro Martire d'Anghiera (1457-1526) scrive al suo amico Teodoro Guaineri (1449-ca. 1509), entrambi hanno lasciato il loro paese, l'Italia, per raggiungere una corte straniera - il primo come cappellano dei monarchi cattolici della penisola iberica, il secondo come medico personale di re Carlo VIII. La corrispondenza tra i due umanisti è conservata soltanto nelle quattro lettere di Pietro Martire d'Anghiera che forniscono alcuni spunti di riflessione sulle rappresentazioni dell'esilio, nonché sui sovrani dei paesi che li hanno ospitati.
