Réemploi et déformation du déjà-là dans La Jalousie de Robbe-Grillet

Abstract : Abstract. – This article deals with the reformulation devices at work in the novel Jealousy by Robbe-Grillet. The first two sections of the article are devoted to the numerous micro-variations which occur in the description of two particular scenes (namely workmen restoring a bridge down in the valley, and protagonists having drinks on the terrace) and to the effects of those subtle textual deformations on a reader looking for referential coherence. The third section focuses on the writing strategy of the author, which partakes in the « Nouveau Roman » trend; it is shown that the constant distortions/bifurcations, which confuse the reader’s spatio-temporal landmarks, is precisely intended to build up kaleidoscopic images (whether memories, dreams or fantasies) amounting to momentary states of consciousness.
