Determination of the optical constants of a uniaxial ultrathin film from FT-IR spectroscopy.

Résumé

To evaluate the optical anisotropy of ultrathin films (d\textless400 Å), the authors have developed two calcn. procedures which permit the authors to obtain the complex refractive indexes no and nc directly from exptl. FTIR spectra. In the 1st procedure, two transmission spectra recorded at different angles of incidence were used. The 2nd one requires a transmission spectrum at normal incidence and a normalized differential reflection spectrum (PM-IR-RAS) at grazing incidence. These methods were applied to Langmuir-Blodgett Cd arachidate monolayers to illustrate their possibilities.
