Influence of Surface Waves on Kármán Street Behind Vertical Cylinder: Subharmonic Lock-in and Phase Synchronizaton
Résumé
It is demonstrated experimentally that the influence of harmonic surface waves on the turbulent Kármán vortex street leads to lock-in of the shedding
frequency and phase synchronization. These effects occur if the frequency of the surface wave is approximately two times higher than the frequency of vortex shedding. A region of frequency lock-in is found on the plane “amplitude—frequency” of the surface waves.
