Curvature Based Triangle Mesh Segmentation with Boundary Rectification

Abstract : We present a new and efficient algorithm for surface decomposition of arbitrary triangle meshes, based on curvature information analysis. Our method not only "cut" the object along its edges but decomposes it into constant curvature surfaces, with a precision threshold given by the user. Contrary to the existing methods, a post-processing allow to obtain patches that have smooth and regular boundaries, and thus which can be later fit with NURBS or subdivision surfaces in a multi-resolution compression perspective.
