Introduction to a special issue showing how there is much to be gained for deeper understandings of energy policy from a specifically urban analysis of rationales, forms and repercussions of energy systems in transition. The special issue offers an in-depth examination of the variety of urban responses to quite distinctive (and sometimes competing) energy-related challenges.
