De la campagne à la ville: la migration du "caboclo" (From Country to City: Caboclo's Migration)
Résumé
A major character in Brazilian possession cults regularly indwells a medium who can then counsel clients seeking help. His name is the same as the term designating country-dwellers: Caboclo. The image of "inlanders" (migrants from Amazonia) in Northeastern Brazil's big cities contributed to the creation of this character during the first half of the 20th century. Because of the malleability of the term caboclo, most of the poor thus find a sense of identity that formulates their vision of history through this religious character.
