Delineating Sustainable Food Systems as Local Networks ?

This poster relies on case studies of various localized food systems to assess the biopolitical dimension of terroir products innovations. Potato is the core object of the investigations as a plant particularly subject to exhaustion, and hence liable to jeopardize the sustainability of local food systems. Looking at the relationship between agriculture and environment in its broad sense, including its agro-physical definition, as well as socio-economic dimensions, the analysis leads to outline 3 ways of managing vegetal material. The results suggest that beyond issues of biodiversity conservation, lie perspectives of enhancing plants’ capacity of adaptation (Chiffoleau and Desclaux, 2006) and challenges of re-framing power asymmetries within the supply chains (Bonneuil et al., 2006).
