Les observables entre théorie et technologie. Deux exemples : la création lexicale et les amorces

Abstract : A categorisation of linguistic devices is proposed whereby a given device is or is not considered observable, attestable and/or attested. After demonstrating the relationship among these three terms in the recent history of linguistic theory and in the study of units of language, two applications are proposed. The first is morphological, and addresses the case of adjectives ending in -able and in process nouns ending in -age and -ment checked against attestations gleaned from the Internet. The second is phonological, and examines the beginnings of utterances taken from a corpus of contemporary spoken French. Observation here is revealed as the implementation of a theory of linguistic data.
