Simulations tools for natural photonic structures
Résumé
Iridescent colours in nature are due to photonic structures presenting different kinds and different scales of disorder. We present a few examples of modelling tools used to understand the interactions of such structures with light. First, we see through an example that a very simple model can be enough; then, through another example, we show that it can be satisfying to consider that the structure is rigorously ordered; eventually we present a few ways to take the disorder into account in models, mainly randomly disturbance method and first Born approximation approach.
