Michel de Boüard member of the Resistance
Michel de Boüard, le résistant
Résumé
Michel de Boüard’s participation in the Resistance raises many questions. The historian is one of the few Caen scholars (along with principal Pierre Daure and dean René Musset) to have joined the Resistance. Considering his previous political opinions and his religious beliefs, the choice of the communist Front national is surprising. Although he did not hold important positions and his role in the editing and publishing of an underground newspaper are unclear, he actively participated in the Departmental committee for liberation before his arrest in December 1943 and his deportation to Mauthausen.
