Saint François de Sales au pays des glaces : une parabole alpine.

Abstract : A well-known letter of Saint Francis de Sales tells a dramatic story that took place in Chamonix, leading to a parable. It helps us to consider the way in which this bishop, an iconic figure of Savoy, viewed the mountains at the beginning of the seventeenth century. We shall see in particular how the clergyman transfroms the traditional vision of the mountain to make it, not an earth of terror, but a sanctified space likely to edify the soul of all the believers.
