Abstract : For sociologists, the prevalence of violence in schools for working class categories seems to be established. The correlation is established and explained by causal models which borrow firstly from the field of deviance and from research on the working class. However, inquiries on victimhood in elementary schools present a social distribution of violence in schools which is skewed. The discrepancies in victimhood between schoolchildren from the working class and schoolchildren from the intermediate professions or upper classes appears less clear to the point of questioning its actual reality. More than a mere adjustment of the statistical device, this difference suggests the need for thinking about how violence as a research topic is elaborated.
