Voltage Profile Analysis for Fault Distance Estimation in Distribution Network

Résumé

In this paper, a fault localization method for MV distribution network is investigated. The development of the method is done in a smart grid context with the deployment of voltage sensors spread along the network. The method is based on RMS voltage measurements. First the fault section is identified with the comparison the voltage slope between the successive sections. Then voltage profiles upstream and downstream the fault section are extrapolated on the faulty section of the line to estimate the fault location, using only the closest voltage measurement points. After presenting the context and the description of the method, performance analysis is done considering the impact of different parameters. Conclusions present the field of the future work to improve this method.
