Verbe pronominal et voix pronominale dans les grammaires françaises des 18e et 19e siècles

Abstract : This paper reports the construction of the category of reflexive verbs and its syntactic (essential / accidental) and semantic (reflected / reciprocal) subdivisions, in the grammars of French eighteenth and nineteenth centu- ries. It is mostly the term “reciprocal”, inherited from the Latin tradition, which is used by the grammarians of French, which creates ambiguity as it refers to the reflexive meaning. The organization of the class depends on two semantic and syntactic issues closely related : the definition of the fonction “complément” and the delineating of additional classes of verbs. There has been various attempts in the first half of the eighteenth century, but the doctrine is fixed only in the second half of the eighteenth century with the spread of the reflexive verbs label and of two interpretations for the pronoun.
