Discourses on Management Concepts: A Study Based on Mary P. Follett's Concept of Integration

Résumé

Mary P. Follett's contributions to management have been eclipsed for a long time. Yet, she has also been considered as a pioneer in management giving philosophical foundations to modern theories of management. The concept of integration is one the the main pillars of her conceptual edifice. The aim of our work is to consider the construction of Follett's discourse on integration. We use the pragmatic ambiguity notion in order to highlight different phases in Follett's intellectual trajectory: she first built the concept without giving it any label; then she introduced the label defining precisely the concept; at the end, she used the concept by applying it to explore various management issues.
