Évaluation économique des dommages aux habitations liés à la submersion marine : Mise en place de modèles de prédiction des coûts à partir de données d'assurance

Abstract : In order to assess the costs of natural disasters, there is a need of cost-assessment models, known as damage functions in natural hazards, and particularly in flood risk literature. This paper presents some of the results of a PhD work (André, 2013). The aim of this study was the development of specific damage functions for coastal flooding costs on residential buildings, from insurance data. After a detailed analysis of insurance indemnities and loss adjustment data collected, the feasibility of building univariate and multivariate cost-assessment models had been considered. We present here the models implementation process, their limits regarding the data used, and recommendations and research perspectives for improving such tools in the future.
