Investigating and Assessing the Quality of Seawater in the Marseille Coastal zone: An Approach using Lipid Class Biomarkers

Abstract : High dynamic anthropogenic activities in urban coastal areas are harming the aquatic environment, which may result in partially high contamination levels near urban wastewater discharges and corresponding coastal areas. However, the occurrence, fate, and distribution of numerous anthropogenic contaminants and xenobiotics are still poorly understood. In this chapter, we present strategies and methods focused on lipid biomarkers developed for characterizing and assessing the anthropogenic impact on Marseille's coastal environment.
