Nominalización y complementación en otomí
Résumé
In this paper, I study a complementation construction by nominalization found in all languages Otomi. The construction is used to express human agentive activities that are conventional and routinary, such as "go swimming", "go hunting", "want to write". It cannot be used with non-agentive ones "want to die" or with non-routinary "want to jump". The chapter also shows that Otomi nominalizations are intransitive, so the construction cannot be used to encode notions such as "finish drinking coffee". The construction competes with a more finite complementation construction consisting of a juxtaposed complement clause with reduced syntax.
