Abstract : This article describes the process we used for transcribing and analyzing a corpus containing approximately 1000 historic manuscripts, based on an XML/TEI encoding and some transformations for their analysis. This process has been developed and used during a PhD work in social history. We describe the multiple visual representations used to analyze the corpus, their usefulness and advantages. We also describe the visualization tools we have used daily and that turned-out to be effective. We also report on errors we made along the process and how to fix them. XML/TEI allows extracting a large number of perspectives from historical sources and streamlines hypotheses explorations once the encoding is performed.
