Synergetic effect of solid acid catalysts and carboxylic acids for the transformation of xylose into furfural

We recently reported a new reaction medium for the transformation of xylose into furfural, in the presence of solid acid catalysts. The use of aqueous acetic acid as solvent leads to enhance conversions and yields, due to the synergetic effect between the aqueous carboxylic acid and the solid acid catalysts.
