Les tartes à la crème sont meilleures en dessert ! : Ethnographie des actions matérielles versus raccourcis théoriques en anthropologie de l'objet

Abstract : One of the questions raised by the collaboration between archaeologists and anthropologists derives from the possibility to give a variety of interpretations to a given artefact or technique. The paper briefly refers to a new series of anthropological researches dealing with an unnoticed but specific role of material actions in the non-verbal communication of what relates various domains of social life. These case studies are based on detailed analyses of the most physical dimension of objects and technical actions, and their interpretation differs from that advocated by the usual theories regarding material culture. The contrast between these results and a contemporary tendency to make non-contextualized references to fashionable notions is fustigated.
