3D Computations of Cavitating Flows using a Scale-Adaptive Turbulence Model

Résumé

A compressible, multiphase, one-fluid RANS solver was developed to study the interaction between cavitation and turbulence. This interaction is complex and not well known. Moreover, the developement of cavitation sheets over hydrofoils puts in evidence 3D cavitating structures, which are not captured with the standard 2D omputations. Therefore, 3D computations are performed on a Venturi geometry with Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) models known to resolve a part of the turbulence. Results are compared with 2D computations and experimental data.
