Résumé

The FMEA (failure mode effect analysis) is a widely used and well known approach for the concept, design and process improvements; however it is limited by the expert's knowledge and its scope. In this article we have used the FMEA approach to identify and remove root causes from the DFM (design for manufacturing) inefficiencies for faster technology improvements and derivatives, resulting in a quick ramp-up-rate. We propose a 4-step interdisciplinary FMEA (i-FMEA) methodology to find root causes across the business functions based on the fact that performance of a function depends on inputs which are outputs from other functions. A case study is conducted in a reputed IDM (integrated device manufacturer) and results are the causes that we have never considered as the limiting factors.
