PROPAGATION OF TRANSIENT WAVES THROUGH A STRATIFIED FLUID MEDIUM - WAVELET ANALYSIS OF A NONASYMPTOTIC DECOMPOSITION OF THE PROPAGATOR .1. SPHERICAL WAVES THROUGH A 2 LAYERED SYSTEM

Abstract : The propagator for the problem of transient waves in a stratified fluid medium has a natural decomposition into three contributions. These contributions are studied in detail by analytic and numerical methods and the results are compared with experiment. Since the individual contributions have dispersive character, they are analyzed with the help of continuous wavelet transforms.
