The molecules are paired to adopt the antiferroelectric arrangement. They optimize their dipole-dipole interactions and they are linked by two hydrogen bonds between two consecutive neighboring pairs of molecules. The high stability of the adlayer seems to be justified by the addition of these two types of interactions.
