Genetic Algorithm for Coupled RLV Trajectory and Guidance Optimization

Abstract : This paper deals with an innovative application of Genetic Algorithm tools in order to perform a global optimization of the hypersonic re-entry trajectory of a reusable launch vehicle, or RLV, with Guidance scheme and Control performance model in-the-loop. Driving idea is to rely at termination of GA process on a reference trajectory in total adequation with Guidance and Control settings and performances and compliant with all mission and GNC requirements for both nominal and off-nominal flight conditions. Illustration of developed principles is made considering a medium L/D entry vehicle.
